Paul Burt

Paul Burt

Paul Burt is the fishing, boating and surf reporter for National Nine News and Nine Gold Coast News.

Burt’s fishing and boating experiences started at the age of four, when he learnt to fish during family holidays in the small community of Facing Island off Gladstone.

After graduating from school, Burt worked for his brother in fishing tackle stores and on professional boats. His first foray into media was in 1993, when he started writing a column for the Gold Coast Bulletin each Friday.

In 1996, Burt started his first business as a fishing charter operator. Within a few months of operation he was approached by Ken Brown to become a regular presenter for Brownie’s Coastwatch on Channel Seven. A year later Burt moved to Prime/Seven News, filing daily fishing and boating reports.

Four years later, Burt joined Tim Bailey as co-host of Channel Ten’s national fishing program, Gone Fishin’. He complemented this role in 2001 by presenting weekly fishing, weather and boating reports for Ten News First at Five.

In 2004, Burt joined forces with local Gold Coast entrepreneur Peter Pakula to produce commercial DVD releases for the fishing and boating markets.

The pair also expanded into the health industry, shooting productions for Queensland Health and non-surgical laser treatment for skin rejuvenation at the Australian Cosmetic Surgery Convention.

Burt took up a position as fishing, boating and surf reporter for Nine Gold Coast News in August 2005.

In his spare time it’s no surprise Paul Burt loves to fish, particularly in the northern New South Wales town of Iluka.
